POLICIES
We believe lasting change comes not only from directing resources to good causes, but from shifting the systems that undermine our values. Our values — justice, loving care, and solidarity — need to become the norms that guide everyday practice.
Policies, such as compensation structures, decision-making processes, and reporting lines, shape the culture of every organization. But too often, they are defined by what is legal or efficient, rather than by what is just. And they are rarely recognized for the massive role they play in shaping a system to serve justice. That's why we treat policy design as the core of our mission.
By testing policies through the lens of justice, we expose how existing systems pressure us to compromise and notice both the injustices and the acts of resistance that challenge them.
Living by values is not about demanding moral purity. For example, most of our collective members donate thousands of hours out of love, but justice calls on us to pay for labor.
The wisest big change starts out small, and lived experience makes all the difference. That’s why we set up the venture studio to test and improve policies in collective. We hope to learn through practice what it takes to build a system differently. From there, scaling the application of policies themselves is how we seed broader systems change.
